Im builing an electric guitar and have a question?

i recently adopted and old telecaster replica and the pickups have the wire with an inner conductor connected so there are 2 single coil wires coming out and one connects to the inner conductor and the other to the outer conductor and want to know if there is a difference in what i connect it to on the other side of the wire (output) do i need to be more specific?
