First time loan and credit?

My boyfriend is looking to get a car. He has no credit. I keep telling him how important it is to have credit in life but he doesn't seem to get it. He had no collateral or money for a down payment and prob could coax his parents to co-sigh for a car loan. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any way to get a loan with out have a co signer and no credit? Do places offer people with history like that loans? Credit Unions...certain banks....?? Any suggestions would help thanks!
