Need help deciding if I should get a gameing laptop or desktop?

i really want something under $1,300 that is fast, has superior graphics, high def., great processor, a cooling system so it doesnt overheat, and most preferably i would lke to know if there is any company that makes gaming comps and laptops other than alienware. also, what makes a gaming laptop and desktop different? twenty points for a good answer,
