What affect does neglecting air resistance have on the horizontal velocity of a projectile?

If you neglect air resistance, then the only force acting on a projectile is gravity, which for small trajectories relative to the curvature of the earth is only vertical. So the effect of neglecting air resistance is that there is zero net force in the horizontal direction, so the velocity in that direction is constant.
