How can the Republican Party hope to move forward in the 21st century when they embrace backward ideologies?

I'm a Republican and I partially agree with what you're saying, but I think you've got it somewhat backwards. I think God, guns and abortion are surefire winners in terms of holding the base together. But I think it's the other side where I'd like to see some movement. We need to do something about poverty and about people without health care, come up with some innovative ideas to make sure everyone's got that security without breaking the bank. Most importantly, we should stand against free trade, which has destroyed our industries. If we can do that, we can win over the middle-of-the-road voters.
