How were the colonies different from one another?

Why do you think the colonies set up by the English in New England (M. Bay/Plymouth) the Chesapeake Bay(Virginia), and the West Indies (Leward Island, Barbodos) were so different from one another? I really need help with this question and please be serious. Thanks
