Answer all questions please?

We were together for 2 years, i stopped talking to him for several reason and i needed to move on and life my life on dec16 2007 was the last contact from me to him, he has emailed me a xmas card on the 24th, and a new years card on jan 1st, and all i did was say thank you, didnt try to strike up a conversation with him i was done with him and was moving now. Since dec 16th he has not called nor texed or emailed except for the xmas and new years card, then all of a sudden on friday Feb 1st i get an email from him stating, Hi how are you doing? Of course i replied back kept it short and said im fine how are you doing? Of course he came back again and said hes fine hes just been working, What mind boggles me is, after all that time why is he now trying to contact me? I am the one who walked away so if i wanted to be with him shouldnt I be the one trying to contact him, why when you tell someone your done do they still contact you? Was he thnkin of me at that time an jus emailed or what?
